Imagine leaving yourself to the mercy of gravity as it hurtles you back down where you belong, sailing through the sky with SA skydiving clubs. In South Africa, there are a number of great locations to fuel your adrenalin addiction and provide you with an experience never to be forgotten (and one you are likely to want to relive all over again). All the major hubs in South Africa have skydiving facilities, but you can also be pleasantly surprised by the facilities at some of South Africa’s smaller skydiving clubs.
Why South Africa?
SA skydiving clubs offer world-class standards at competitive prices. Because the exchange rate is favourable to many overseas countries, foreigners can often skydive for cheaper in South Africa than they can in their home countries. Aside from the economical allure, South African skydiving sites also offer spectacular aerial scenery over a variety of landscape and vegetation. The only challenge is for you to keep your eyes open to see it all!
At Skydive Cape Town, you will be offered one of the best bird’s eye views from around the world, (hopefully) looking over the city of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain and the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Skydive Cape Town also offer you a picture of yourself flying in front of Table Mountain as proof of your parachuting.
What kind of skydiving can I do?
At most SA skydiving clubs you can choose between doing a standard static line jump or going for a tandem twosome. A tandem jump is best for first time jumpers, as you are tied to an instructor who will make sure that you actually leave the plane and that you pull the parachute at the right time. Some of these clubs also offer a free-fall course so that you can one day go it alone as you scream through the sky.
What are some of the best SA Skydiving clubs?
- To make a large leap, you can find the biggest skydiving club in Pretoria. In the Jacaranda City, two Pilatus Porters drop parachuted-people into the sky. At Pretoria Skydiving Club, you can also sign up for instruction for freefly skydiving, freestyle skydiving, wing suiting as well as formation skydiving if you feel that that tandem is too tame. At the drop zone is a swimming pool, club house and bunk house.
- Also in Pretoria at the Wonderboom Airport is the SA Skydiving School, where free-fall courses and tandem jumps are offered. One of the highlights is having a top freefall photographer at you tail to capture all the funny faces and screams on film.
- An hour away from Pretoria and Johannesburg is the Witbank Skydiving Club. Here you can subject yourself to static line courses for your first jump as well as tandem jumps and accelerated free fall courses.
- The Witbank Skydiving Club is also host to Vertical Descent, a company that promotes all types of skydiving, offering static line courses, accelerated freefall courses, as well as photos and DVDs to capture the weightless wonder of your descent.
- Grahamstown is a small city in the Eastern Cape where EP Skydivers have their base. EP Skydivers offers accelerated free fall courses for first-time divers, static line falls and tandem jumps. You can stay at the accommodation provided at the drop zone, where you can also find a tuck shop, braai and bar facilities.
